Fire Rated Doors

Fire rated doors are used mostly in commercial settings, as opposed to residential homes. The term “fire rated” means to stop the spread of the fire from moving into other rooms and to keep the door from combusting for an alloted period of time. Those time frames vary, but typically range anywhere from 20 to 90 minutes. 30 minute fire doors tend to be the most common, whereby they are able to hold the fire out for 30 minutes. Fire rated doors are also useful in containing the fire temporarily, allowing people to exit the building.
